Nitu Kedia: An Unbroken Spirit
Nitu Kedia’s journey is a powerful example of courage, determination, faith, and an unwavering commitment to education.
With a vision to create a vibrant and culturally rich learning environment, Kedia collaborated with British Council initiatives to facilitate global virtual exchanges for young learners. Students from different countries connected across borders and shared their experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic, discussing academics, extracurricular activities, mental health, and positive habits.
These international exchanges demonstrated that empathy, cultural respect, and kindness are universal values that transcend borders.
Life, however, presented Kedia with profound personal challenges. Following cataract surgery, she contracted COVID-19, which resulted in severe anemia. Concerned that her health condition could affect her students’ academic progress, she made the difficult decision to step away from her professional role.
Managing severe illness as a single mother became an extraordinary test of strength. Yet faith, perseverance, and the support of her loved ones helped her overcome the difficult period.
Her dedication to education never wavered.
Major Initiatives
Global Webinars:
Kedia organized the “Together We Can” international session with International Global Professionals (IGP), focusing on children's emotional adaptability and resilience.
Virtual Expeditions:
She conducted interactive virtual tours of historical landmarks, international museums, and heritage temples of Nepal, giving students opportunities to explore culture and history through digital learning.
Community Outreach:
She contributed to the “Apna Pathshala” initiative to support digital learning for underprivileged students and utilized platforms such as Edmodo to maintain accessible virtual classrooms.
Just as she began rebuilding her life and professional journey, another major health crisis struck. Severe hypertension critically affected her spinal cord and neurological health, resulting in a 15-day stay in the ICU.
During this critical period, her daughter—who was preparing for her board examinations—spent her days outside the ICU in tears and prayers for her mother’s survival. Her daughter’s courage, along with divine grace and the unwavering support of family, friends, colleagues, and students, gave Kedia the strength to fight back.
Surviving this critical chapter became a rebirth for Nitu Kedia.
She remains deeply grateful to the Almighty for the precious gift of life and to the leadership, colleagues, and friends at Kendriya Vidyalaya Kathmandu, along with her students and family, whose steadfast support helped her through the most challenging moments of her life.
The International Excellence Award 2026 celebrates not only her contributions to education and community development but also the extraordinary resilience she demonstrated while facing adversity.
Her story delivers a powerful message:
“When faith and purpose remain unshaken, no hardship is insurmountable.”
